We pulled over and I started shooting pictures as fast as I could, because I knew the opportunity wouldn’t last very long. Naturally the horses weren't very happy with our presence, and they started slowly moving away. The mare and foal closest to us were being left behind because the baby was still sleeping. As the others moved farther away, the mare began to fret. She finally raised her front foot and gave him a motherly poke. In an instant the baby was up and they were gone to join the others.
